The first time I baked something with strawberries was last year. It was the “Beeriger Crumble” from Einfach Vegan Backen. A streusel cake made with two different kinds of fruits - cherries as well as strawberries – so unique that I knew I would bake it again someday.
Strawberry time around here is a special time. The red, ripe fruit fills the garden and I know of people who eat “strawberry milk” every night until there are no more strawberries left to reap. Strawberry milk is simply a bowl filled with milk (I prefer oat milk!) and a white roll and pieces of strawberries. And a little sugar or agave syrup.
Then there is always strawberry wine punch. Each family has their own recipe. It can be made with apple juice + ginger ale + fresh mint +non-alcoholic champagne. Or add some vodka and real champagne or bubbly for a fruity buzz. Best served cooled and enjoyed with family or friends.
Usually we munch strawberries right off the vine; maybe with some whipped vegan cream and a little sugar . And today my mouth was watering for a bite of that lovely tasting strawberry - cherry pie just like I had last year. Quick before the season is over – that is when the strawberries taste the very best!
Everyone who tried it agrees.
